Chai London -- NYC & Miami Fashion Designer
CHAI LONDON is a luxury designer men's clothing brand. Creative director, Chai-Lee was born and raised in the UK, where she pursued the fashion industry and graduated with Honors from a fashion design course. She commenced her first internship with an Italian designer in Central London. As an intern as part of a small company she had to have a versatile approach to the daily task. These varied from pattern making, fabric sourcing and overseeing manufacturing; which gave her a well-rounded understanding. This prompted her first womenswear collection in 2011 - Chai-Lee Shrayn. In Summer 2013 Chai-Lee moved to New York City to pursue a job opportunity with Ralph Lauren. After being on the design team for two years she began to feel restricted and missed the excitement of seeing her own designs come to life. Chai-Lee then moved forwards to revive her womenswear line and introduce it to the American market. Living in a foreign country presented numerous challenges which led her to step outside of her comfort zone and design her menswear collection. As the creative director, Chai-Lee takes pride in handpicking fine quality fabrics and trimmings from the heart of the garment district in New York City. With a commitment to creating timeless yet innovative pieces, suitable for fashion forward men who have a contemporary wardrobe and modern lifestyle. The designer takes conventional wardrobe staples and presents a combination of raglan cuts mixed with sporty urban conceptual aesthetic. The collection represents the designers upbringing and experiences, aiming to unite traditional British tailoring and influences from urban American culture - bridging the gap between the distinction of formal and casual wear. i-D Meets: London's Rising Fashion Stars
Enter the weird and wonderful worlds of four CSM grads turned fashion’s brightest young things. Step inside Istanbul-born, London-based rebel Dilara Findikoglu’s cabinet of curiosities, rub a wishing stone with Rottingdean Bazaar’s James Theseus Buck and Luke Brooks, and peer into designer, illustrator and make-up maestro Matty Bovan’s kaleidoscopic diary of everyday outfits. Shaking up the capital’s fashion scene from afar, each designer is a non-compromising, multi-tasking collaborator of the creative resistance. During this time of socio-political uncertainty, their journeys remind us of the importance of being brave, breaking rules and delighting in difference - defying expectations and fighting for what you believe in. The Topshop Unique Catwalk Show at London Fashion Week 2016 | Runway To Retail
This season’s inspiration for Topshop Unique came from the market itself. “We looked back to the heyday of London fashion in the late ’80s, when markets were everywhere,” Topshop Creative Director Kate Phelan told us backstage. “There was Camden, Kensington, Hyper Hyper… these fashion emporiums opened up so many diverse styles; it’s that great individual British style that comes through in today’s collection.” Watch how Topshop’s London Fashion Week initiative, Runway-to-Retail, debuted globally on the 18th September 2016. Shop the collection now: http://bit.ly/2cjpvGJ This season Topshop offered consumers the opportunity to shop a carefully selected edit of Topshop Unique pieces directly from the runway, in store, online and at our new showspace in East London’s Old Spitalfields Market. Arizona Muse, Olivia Palermo, Ellie Goulding and Erin O'Connor sat front row to watch the new supers including Taylor Hill, Stella Maxwell and Lineisy Montero strut down the catwalk in the '80s-inspired collection. Art Direction students visit Silversun Media Group - INSEEC London
Recently our Sup de Pub students in Art Direction had the opportunity to visit Silversun Media Group at their head office in London, a top visual communications business with three divisions: Agency/Brand, Educational/Corporate, and Digital Entertainment. Students were given advice about the film industry and on how to best maintain themselves professionally. The most important part of getting a foothold in the industry is networking and building personal relationships. According to Chris Skarratt, Co-founder & deputy managing director of Silversun Media Group, gaining the experience of talking to people and developing relationships with industry professionals is just as important as gaining experience through the learning process. " ... personal relationships are probably the most important part of developing your career. Once you have that portfolio, understanding and skillset, how do you exploit it? Get those personal relationships in place, they will take you a long way on your journey to becoming an Art Director of the future." During the visit, students were able to gain valuable insights from Kylie Lewis, Art Director at OgilvyOne Worldwide, an agency specializing in Customer Engagement, on how best to look for that first big job, " I think it would probably be to your advantage to look for agencies who actually have French clients," she said. "A lot of work will be translated into other countries, especially worldwide campaigns. So, if you've got a bit more of an international understanding, then that's really going to put you in good stead." Interested in an International Career in film and advertising? WITH TOP FASHION MODELS PAUL PAVLOVSKA AND MAGDA SWIDER AT THE CAFE ROYAL HOTEL LONDON. PHOTOGRAPHY BEKI COWEY. ALL DESIGNS COPYRIGHT GABRIELA ROSE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BEKI COWEY. Other creative credits: Male Model Jolan Viaud Make up and Hair: Sarah McIlwain Bates Fashion Assistant and Stylist: Gabriella Gambetta Stylist Creative Director and Choreographer: David M Dent Staff at the Cafe Royal Piccadilly PR Laura Baxter Perceptions Matter THE GABRIELA ROSE STORY Gabriela Popa, a British national, is proud of her Romanian roots. It is perhaps worth remembering that in the period between the two World Wars, Bucharest’s elegant architecture and the sophistication of its elite earned the city the nickname of "Little Paris". Born in a small town Orsova, 2 hours from Bucharest, and one of 4 sisters, she had a happy childhood. Her father, despite the constraints of Communism, was an entrepreneur. Her mother was a naturally skilled stylist excelling at shop display. At only 18 Gabriela came to London giving up her Maths and Physics studies. She began her working life on a market stall in Covent Garden keenly observing and learning to love the English way of life. She soon developed her own business and style, designing garments to suit the well-dressed woman. Using only the best quality materials and exquisite tailoring, for which Romania was well renowned, she has perfected The Rose Wrap, the Halkin jacket and Berkeley coat that were inspired by the elegance of London hotels after which they are named. With an eye for detail and uniqueness Gabriela continues to add little extras such as fold back cuffs and under collar detail in beautiful linings that set her range apart. Popular in London, she was soon showing her collection at prestigious events such as Cheltenham Races, Burghley and Badminton, where her designs were something different from classic brands. Gabriela observed the ' English Country Style' and while it was an inspiration she felt it could be open to new interpretation. Her Collections some with forties style cut and others with tartan velvet, were also eagerly greeted at events like Goodwood Revival and the Edinburgh Fringe. Gaining inspiration from the countryside and equine fashions as well as glamorous nights at the Royal Opera House, London, her range of designs continue to have a strong following. Always excited by a new challenge and following her inspirations from observing people and street fashions, she is eager to bring the modern and edgy to the classic look. ! This new collection was partly inspired by chains and zips she had seen at a punk gig with ‘The Vibrators’, and also by the resurgence of new psychedelia with bands like ‘The Horrors’. Hence her new collection reflects this in linings and details. The linings feature bold black and white chain prints and Bridget Riley inspired Op Art, as well as sixties' colourful prints. Her colour palette ranges from black and white, to vibrant orange and dreamy blues, though she has also not abandoned more classic colours. This is a collection for the City, inspired by its edge, but equally with warmth and practicality in mind for the stylish country woman.
