The Flower Pot Men: Let's Go to San Francisco

03:41
Composed in 1967. by John Carter and Ken Lewis ,"Let's Go to San Francisco" is the only UK-charting single by the British pop group “The Flower Pot Men”, group which sound was characterized by rich, three-part vocal harmonies. Group`s name “The Flower Pot Men” was derived from the BBC children's show Flower Pot Men, with the obvious psychedelic era puns on flower power and "pot" (cannabis.). Cute song that instantly recalls me to late sixties and San Francisco. To us living somewhere else, San Francisco seems like frozen in some other time. . Let's Go To San Francisco - Tutorial with Chords - The Flower Pot Men

03:57
"Let's Go to San Francisco" is the only UK-charting single by the British pop group The Flower Pot Men. The song was written and produced by John Carter and Ken Lewis, engineered by John Mackswith and released in 1967. It is regarded as a work of the 1960s California Sound. The song was a Top 10 hit single in a number of countries. It peaked at #9 in Norway[3] and #4 in the United Kingdom.[4] A light-hearted pastiche of the work of Brian Wilson, the song achieved a similar musical level and has remained popular. The song could be mistaken for a Beach Boys single.

The Flower Pot Men - You Can Never Be Wrong

Here is a very nice B-side from the Flower Pot Men's 3rd single from 1968. This song seems to be ommited from some FPM compolations, and wasn't on here so I figured I'd post it, this and Mythological Sunday are my two favorite songs by this band. The FPM were session muscians hired to preform live after Let's Go To San Fransisco started to get chart action but the writiers John Carter and Ken Perry had no intention of going back on the road as a band (They had been in The Ivy League a couple of years earlier) So this band featuring a young Tony Burrows preformed on many TV shows between 67-68. The Flower Pot Men would in 1969/70 reform as White Plains and hit big with My Baby Loves Lovin

Hello, Hello, Hello THE FLOWERPOT MEN

The Flowerpot Men had only the one big hit - "Let's Go to San Francisco" but recorded a lot of music under various names as a vehicle mostly for the talents of song-writing team Greenaway and Cook. Here's an example of their lesser known output. They eventually morphed into White Plains. And, of course, they were most often accompanied by lead singer Tony Burrows.

Carter and Lewis retired the name The Flowerpot Men soon after their big hit, "Let's Go to San Francisco" - but they just couldn't let go of the sound. Years later, they wrote and released this one under the banner of Beautiful People.... but as you will see from the opening bars, it's all the same crew.

The Flower Pot Men *Prologue & These Heavy Times*1970

04:42
From the album ~ Peace album/Past Imperfect ~ The Flower Pot Men were an English pop group created in 1967, as a result of the single, "Let's Go to San Francisco", recorded by session musicians, becoming a major UK Top 20 and Continental Europe hit in the autumn of 1967. The group's sound was characterised by rich, three-part vocal harmonies. History The Flower Pot Men were a studio recording construct created by John Carter and Ken Lewis, originally the main songwriters of The Ivy League. They notably were featured as backup vocalists for early Who albums and for the first recording of The Sagittarius', "My World Fell Down". Ken Lewis departed as a result of his lack of interest to tour, and Carter joined him soon after to create a musical songwriting duo. "Let's Go to San Francisco" Let's Go to San Francisco "Let's Go to San Francisco" was written and recorded by songwriters John Carter and Ken Lewis. The composition, psychedelic in nature, took vocal and instrumental inspiration from The Beach Boys. The name The Flower Pot Men was derived from the BBC children's show Flower Pot Men, with the obvious psychedelic era puns on flower power and "pot" (Cannabis). In the US, they were commonly deemed The Flower Men on radio airplay to avoid the drug reference. The duo licensed the recording to Deram Records, who had a hit but no group to promote it. Carter and Lewis, having no interest in going on the road to promote the record, created the group from a hand-picked collective of recording studio session musicians and vocalists. Led by vocalist Tony Burrows, who had been in the Ivy League with Carter and Lewis, the band also included Billie Davis's backing band, and for a while (though not for recordings) later Deep Purple members Jon Lord, who replaced Billy Davidson on keyboards in January 1968, and Nick Simper on bass. Carter and Lewis continued to write, record and produce most of the band's subsequent recordings over the next three years.
