The Bottled Imp - Episode 111 We’ve always said that the fantasy genre is wide and far reaching. We always said that reviewing fantasy books, board games and films is great. But what else is out there? What else can the fantasy genre express itself? Now I don’t really read comics. There, I said it. I know, for some that will be a hard pill to swallow. For others, it’ll be neither here nor there. Not sure why I don’t read them but I’ve never really been drawn to them (yes, see what I did there!). I used to read Superman and Batman comics when a very small lad but somewhere along the line I never made it to the grown up world of graphic novels and adult comics. So it’s with great pleasure to delve, albeit temporally, into this foreign land. Regular Bottled Imp viewer and all round nice guy Andy Craig (who happens to work for Games Workshop), watch our review of the ‘Heavy Metal’ film: https://youtu.be/rUpMOXtFgzg and very kindly helped me out with my knowledge of the origins of the film. I’d seen the posters for the ‘Heavy Metal’ film as a kid but never know what it was all about. Well, let me tell you, it’s certainly not for kids! We need to go back to 1975, when the French science-fantasy magazine Métal Hurlant had debuted January 1975. It was American publisher Leonard Mogel who was in Paris to jump-start the French edition of National Lampoon, that first noticed this strange magazine who’s actual translated name means ‘Howling Metal’. Mogel promptly brought it back to America to create the English version and the rest as they say, is history. The magazine is still going strong to this day after continuous publication. Also, within this episode, I chat about fantasy artists John Blanche and Ian Miller and their early book ‘Ratspike’ when they were working for Games Workshop. Another love of Andy’s. I’d mentioned in a review that I loved Ian Miller’s pen and ink work and low and behold it turns out Andy knew him. But that is for another day… ------------------------------------------ The Bottled Imp Exploring the Realms of Fantasy. ***** New shows every Wednesday & Friday ***** SUBSCRIBE NOW!..... http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=TheBottledImp FOLLOW US...... http://www.twitter.com/TheBottledImp http://www.facebook.com/TheBottledImp Presented by Ken Boyter http://www.kenboyter.co.uk Produced & Directed by Julian Newman Turner http://www.luciddreampictures.com http://www.facebook.com/luciddreampictures Music by Greg Breden http://www.gregbreden.magix.net/website Artwork by Richard Nairn http://www.theartfuldoodler.co.uk

Heavy Metal is an American science fiction and fantasy comics magazine, known primarily for its blend of dark fantasy/science fiction and erotica. In the mid-1970s, while publisher Leonard Mogel was in Paris to jump-start the French edition of National Lampoon, he discovered the French science-fantasy magazine Métal Hurlant which had debuted January 1975. The French title translates literally as "Howling Metal." When Mogel licensed the American version, he chose to rename it, and Heavy Metal began in the U.S. In April 1977 as a glossy, full-color monthly. Initially, it displayed translations of graphic stories originally published in Métal Hurlant, including work by Enki Bilal, Philippe Caza, Guido Crepax, Philippe Druillet, Jean-Claude Forest, Jean Giraud (aka Moebius) and Milo Manara. The magazine later ran Stefano Tamburini and Tanino Liberatore's ultra-violent RanXerox. Since the color pages had already been shot in France, the budget to reproduce them in the U.S. version was greatly reduced. Songs: -UFO - treacle People (1970) -Iron Butterfly - Scion (1974) FAIR USE "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. The problem covered in this film is hand-scraping a fuel pump body to produced a liquid-tight joint." Produced by Ray-Bell Films. Originally a public domain film, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hand_scraper Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ A hand scraper is a single-edged tool used to scrape metal from a surface. This may be required where a surface needs to be trued, corrected for fit to a mating part, needs to retain oil (usually on a freshly ground surface), or to give a decorative finish. Surface plates were traditionally made by scraping. Three raw (plates that have been `seasoned` or residual stress relieved and received suitable surface treatments, but unfinished) cast surface plates, a flat scraper (as pictured at the top of the image) and a quantity of bearing blue (or red lead) were all that was required in the way of tools. The scraper in the center of the image is a three corner scraper and is typically used to deburr holes or the internal surface of bush type bearings. Bushes are typically made from bronze or a white metal. The scraper pictured at the bottom is a curved scraper. It has a slight curve in its profile and is also suitable for bush bearings, typically the longer ones. One advantage of scraping is the ability to take the tool to the workpiece, this can be useful when the workpiece weighs several tons and is difficult to move. It is done by using a precision surface such as a surface plate or a straight edge as a standard (a straight edge in this context is not a ruler; it is a miniature surface plate of extreme accuracy). The standard is coated with a very thin coating of a material such as Prussian blue. The work piece and standard are touched together by gravity alone and the high spots on the work piece will be colored by the dye on the standard. These high spots are scraped off and the process repeated until there is an even spread of high spots which total about 60% or more of the surface area. Coarse scraping gives a resulting surface with 5-10 points per square inch while fine scraping yields 24-36 points per square inch. If desired the surface can then be “Frosted”. A surface prepared in this way is superior in overall accuracy to any prepared by machining or grinding operations, although lapping can equal or exceed it over small distances. Grinding and machining stresses the metal thermally and mechanically, scraping and lapping do not. Scraping is the only method for producing an original set of flat surfaces from which one can transfer that accuracy through to other surfaces by means of grinding.Lapping and grinding do not achieve the long distance flatness scraping can, as they act on the entire surface rather than local high or low spots. With precision ground surfaces, any oil film applied to the surface will lack the means to adhere to the surface, especially between two mating parts of exceptional finish. The oil film will be swept away leaving nothing but bare metal and the risk of seizure. Carefully scraping the surface will leave the original high quality surface intact, but provide many shallow depressions where the oil film can maintain its depth and surface tension. When scraping is used for this purpose it is more accurately called "frosting", "spotting" or "flaking" as opposed to fully scraping an accurate surface. Typically a scraped surface is scraped to highly accurate flatness and then "frosting" is applied over it for oil retention. It is claimed to stop the so-called "stick-slip" phenomenon where a machine member might move in a jerky fashion rather than moving smoothly, allowing vibration and chatter. Such frosting will definitely increase oil retention but will also drastically reduce bearing area and capacity...

Six representative tools are shown and the various uses and characteristics of each discussed in detail. The film opens with views of the grooving and nicking tool. The parts of the tool are named, pointed out, and the relationship of each part to the other parts of the tool are explained. Attention is called by picture and commentary to the end cutting edge and to the fact that this is the widest part of the cutting end. Closeup views of the grooving tool in action serve to explain why all end cutting tools have a minimum heel clearance and are usually set on the center line and square with the work." Produced by the Calvin Company. Originally a public domain film, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tool_bit Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ A tool bit is a non-rotary cutting tool used in metal lathes, shapers, and planers. Such cutters are also often referred to by the set-phrase name of single-point cutting tool, as distinguished from other cutting tools such as a saw or water jet cutter. The cutting edge is ground to suit a particular machining operation and may be resharpened or reshaped as needed. The ground tool bit is held rigidly by a tool holder while it is cutting... Back rake is to help control the direction of the chip... Side Rake along with back rake controls the chip flow and partly counteracts the resistance of the work to the movement of the cutter... Nose Radius makes the finish of the cut smoother... Materials Steels Originally, all tool bits were made of high carbon tool steels with the appropriate hardening and tempering. Since the introductions of high-speed steel (HSS) (early years of the 20th century), sintered carbide (1930s), ceramic and diamond cutters, those materials have gradually replaced the earlier kinds of tool steel... Most tool bits today are made of HSS, cobalt steel, or carbide. Carbides and ceramics Carbide, ceramics (such as cubic boron nitride) and diamond, having higher hardness than HSS, all allow faster material removal than HSS in most cases... The cutting edge is usually either screwed or clamped on (in this case it is called an insert), or brazed on to a steel shank (this is usually only done for carbide)... Inserts Almost all high-performance cutting tools use indexable inserts... History Tool bits have been used for centuries... A substantial technological advance occurred in the 1890–1910 period, when Frederick Winslow Taylor applied scientific methods to the study of tool bits and their cutting performance (including their geometry, metallurgy, and heat treatment, and the resulting speeds and feeds, depths of cut, metal-removal rates, and tool life). Along with Maunsel White and various assistants, he developed high speed steels... he also determined optimum geometry (rake angles, clearance angles, nose radiuses, etc.). He developed Taylor's Equation for Tool Life Expectancy. After Taylor, it was no longer taken for granted that the black art of individual craftsmen represented the highest level of metalworking technology... Stellite soon joined high speed steels as a material for single-point cutters. Although diamond turning had been around for a long time, it was not until these new, expensive metals came about that the idea of cutting inserts became commonly applied in machining. Before this, most single-point cutters were forged entirely of tool steel (then ground at the tip)... Between 1900 and 1950, it was still not uncommon for a machinist to forge a tool from carbon tool steel. Today, among the single-point cutters used in mass production (such as of automotive parts), insert tools using carbide and ceramic far outnumber HSS or cobalt steel tools. In other machining contexts (e.g., job shops, toolrooms, and hobbyist practice), the latter are still well represented..

It is with a somewhat heavy heart that I complete my Heavy Metal collection. There were times when I thought it impossible even with eBay and comic conventions/Stores et al.. But I have arrived at what is a somewhat bittersweet moment. As we collectors know it is the chase that keeps us going. So as I move into the future of my collecting anything graphic related I begin to ponder my future. Not in the video. I am waxing philosophic here in my description only. What's next you ask? Metal Hurlant is next as well as finishing my run of Epic illustrated. After that who knows? I certainly don't.

► Website: http://www.rammstein.com ► Shop: http://shop.rammstein.de Premiere: August 20th , 2004 (MTV Select) Shoot: 6th - 7th of August, 2004 Location: Ruins of the former chemical site Rüdersdorf near Berlin Director: Jörn Heitmann Single: Amerika From the Album: Reise, Reise The AMERIKA video was filmed in the ruins of the former chemical factory in Rüdersdorf near Berlin under the direction of Jörn Heitmann. It was the fourth video he directed for Rammstein. For two days, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m., the band stood in front of the cameras. The spacesuits for the moon scenes were rented from Hollywood and 240 tons of ash were needed to create the moon landscape. Biography: Rammstein was formed in 1993 by an ensemble of factory-weary proletarians raised in East Germany. They took their name (adding an "m") from the location of a German tragedy where 80 people were injured and killed as the result of a crash during an American Air Force air show. The literal translation of "Ram Stein" is a battering ram made of stone. Word of Rammstein's horror/romanticist blend of theater and music - spread quickly - one-time Olympic swimmer Till Lindemann would sometimes sing entire songs engulfed in flame from head to toe. The band's first album, HERZELEID (English: Heartache), elaborated on the foundations set by the band's live reputation. Scaling the German charts, and remaining there until the release of the second Rammstein LP some two years later, the album also introduced the band to the world outside of the Germany/Switzerland/Austria region. As Rammstein's second album, SEHNSUCHT (English: Longing), was released, the band was playing headlines shows across Europe to crowds of 10,000 to 30,000 people. SEHNSUCHT entered the German charts at number one immediately upon its release and came very close to doing the same in Austria and Switzerland. Within weeks, entries on other countries' charts had SEHNSUCHT rubbing elbows with The Prodigy, Radiohead, and The Rolling Stones on Billboard's cumulative Eurochart. From there the fever spread, transcending any perceived language barrier. MUTTER followed in 2001, REISE, REISE in 2004, and the live collection VOLKERBALL in 2006. LIEBE IST FÜR ALLE DA followed in 2009. A limited edition of the album was packed in a metal suitcase that also housed six sex toys, one for each member of the band. ~ Ed Nimmervoll, Rovi

They were originally designed to machine metals; however, with the advent of plastics and other materials, and with their inherent versatility, they are used in a wide range of applications, and a broad range of materials. In machining jargon, where the larger context is already understood, they are usually simply called lathes, or else referred to by more-specific subtype names (toolroom lathe, turret lathe, etc.). These rigid machine tools remove material from a rotating workpiece via the (typically linear) movements of various cutting tools, such as tool bits and drill bits... Turret lathes and capstan lathes are members of a class of lathes that are used for repetitive production of duplicate parts (which by the nature of their cutting process are usually interchangeable). It evolved from earlier lathes with the addition of the turret, which is an indexable toolholder that allows multiple cutting operations to be performed, each with a different cutting tool, in easy, rapid succession, with no need for the operator to perform setup tasks in between (such as installing or uninstalling tools) nor to control the toolpath. (The latter is due to the toolpath's being controlled by the machine, either in jig-like fashion [via the mechanical limits placed on it by the turret's slide and stops] or via IT-directed servomechanisms [on computer numerical controlled (CNC) lathes].) There are a tremendous variety of turret lathe and capstan lathe designs, reflecting the variety of work that they do... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turret_lathe The turret lathe is a form of metalworking lathe that is used for repetitive production of duplicate parts, which by the nature of their cutting process are usually interchangeable. It evolved from earlier lathes with the addition of the turret, which is an indexable toolholder that allows multiple cutting operations to be performed, each with a different cutting tool, in easy, rapid succession, with no need for the operator to perform set-up tasks in between, such as installing or uninstalling tools, nor to control the toolpath. The latter is due to the toolpath's being controlled by the machine, either in jig-like fashion, via the mechanical limits placed on it by the turret's slide and stops, or via electronically-directed servomechanisms for computer numerical control lathes... The term "vertical turret lathe" (VTL) is applied to machines wherein the same essential design of the horizontal version is upended, which allows the headstock to sit on the floor and the faceplate to become a horizontal rotating table, analogous to a huge potter's wheel. This is useful for the handling of very large, heavy, short workpieces. Vertical lathes in general are also called "vertical boring mills" or often simply "boring mills"; therefore a vertical turret lathe is a vertical boring mill equipped with a turret. A CNC version is called a "CNC VTL"...

When U.S. Air Force planes reach 60 or 70 years old, it can be hard to buy replacement parts. That’s when the Air Force counts on the folks at the metal shop. They engineer, machine and fine tune those parts from scratch. TSgt. Clay Finley, from the 117th Air Refueling Wing in Birmingham, Ala., tells us why working in a metal shop is a “cool job.” --------------- #KnowYourMil Your military is an all-volunteer force that serves to protect our security and way of life, but Service members are more than a fighting force. The French title translates literally as "Howling Metal". When Mogel licensed the American version, he chose to rename it, and Heavy Metal began in the U.S. in April 1977 as a glossy, full-color monthly.

10 Accidents In Metal Industry! This Video talks about different kinds of risks that is associated in metal industry. So. that we can aware you about safety instructions. As you know safety of workers or individuals are primary concern for TTI. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ # 10 Slag Explosions Slag or metal waste is the waste material that remains after Ore-Purification. And that won't be used in the metal processing. Generally when metal impurities mix with water, for instance, a big explosion may occur. #9 Electric Arc Furnaces The electric arc furnaces have been substituting traditional furnaces in many steel plants worldwide. #8 Boiler Explosion Boilers are very important in the metal industry. They are defined as a closed pressure vessel where a fluid is heated by applying the resulting heat externally. #7 Fires One of the hazards to be considered in the metal industry is fire. Fire increases the possibilities for accidents to occur. #6 Moisture Water entry or just simple moisture in the boiler can produce bad results that could put at risk the worker’s live in the metal industry. #5 Slag Dumping We cannot consider the slag dumping as an accident, but the consequences of this action can be very negative. Slag or waste originate from ore smelting to purify metals. #4 Steel Casting ladle break Broadly speaking, the steel casting ladle is a tool used in the metal refining and casting. it is used to transport and pour the red hot metal. They are made of steel and have a refractory lining to withstand high temperatures. #3 Molten Metal Splashes One of the most common risks in metal smelting are the splashes of molten metal. It is in fact one of the points for risk prevention. #2 Eruptions in Metal Casting Centres A very risky event is the metal casting process. This process consists of pouring the smelted metal into a cast for it to become solid. #1 Fire Loops or Cobble this kind of accident can be lethal for workers who are near. Thank you to our customers that gave us feedback on our Gen1 Bottom Metal so we could make improvements like this! The Gen2 Bottom Metal has the same functionality that made the Gen1 so popular and we added a more comfortable trigger guard. The contour is more narrow in the rear making the reach to the trigger more comfortable. Additionally, we created an arced profile over the entire guard so there are no sharp edges to catch on. The bodies are machined and we are currently working on the mag catches. These should start shipping 12/5/2016. Get yours today! https://tikkaperformance.com/index.php?_route_=tikka-t3-bottom-metal
