Weather in Germany
Germany has a continental climate and isn’t a very big country, so its temperature variations are due more to altitude than location. Germany’s altitude, however, goes from sea level in the north to 9,700 feet in the Alps in the south. North Sea Tour: Wind, waves & weather! | MMM-Vlog
Go behind the scenes of a concert tour through Germany's North Sea region with singer-songwriter Stephanie Forryan in ep. 67 of the Monday Music Minutes! This music and travel vlog shows how glamorous (or not) life as a touring musician can be - wind, waves, weather and all. These down-to-earth moments show what it's like being on tour as an independent artist and how to be a successful musician. This whirlwind tour was SO MUCH FUN! (Except for the spiders.) And it taught me an important lesson: Never tour the coast without a rain jacket. :-D This spot on the map in Europe definitely requires weather-friendly clothing. But that's just life on the road. It was fun capturing a week in the life of a musician as a singer who vlogs. Except for the sea spiders. Trying to focus the camera on the arachnids with my shaking hands was a challenge. :-D Featured music: Small Town Blues (Stephanie Forryan) Dog Latitudes (Axel Kowollik - https://www.youtube.com/user/axelkowolliktv ) Dream On (Stephanie Forryan) Links: Album: https://stephanieforryan.bandcamp.com/ Support my new album: https://www.patreon.com/stephanieforryan Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCRc_zeNCvlHcn-phiq35lfFnTtVgIXA6 Follow me on Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stephanieforryanmusic Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stephanieforryan/ Snapchat: http://www.snapchat.com/add/sforryan Twitter: https://twitter.com/sforryan Homepage: http://stephanieforryan.com Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/stephanieforryan

Why has it been so hot??
Learn more about the physics underlying the weather with Brilliant! https://brilliant.org/simonclark This summer in the Northern Hemisphere we've seen some pretty exceptional temperatures, not seen in the UK since 1976. However in 76 the UK was a red blob in a mostly blue temperature map. In 2018 the UK's heatwave is a red blob in a sea of yellow and orange. This video talks about the three things that caused this scorching hot summer across the hemisphere. Storm SEBASTIAN Germany hurricane
At least three people have been killed in a large windstorm that swept across Germany. Hurricane-force winds downed trees and toppled scaffolding, with officials warning residents to stay at home. Windstorm Sebastian wreaked havoc across northern and northwestern Germany on Wednesday, killing three people and causing power outages. Wind gusts of up to 150 kilometers (93 miles) per hour were recorded in the northern Harz mountain range, according to the German weather service (DWD). The North Sea saw gusts of up to 140 kilometers per hour, as residents in northern Germany battled driving downpours. Three people have been killed as a result of the storm. A man in a wheelchair died after falling into the Elbe River in the northern city of Hamburg, local firefighters said. Witnesses saw the man fall into the water where he later drowned despite a rescue effort that included a boat, divers and a helicopter. Also in Hamburg, a pedestrian died after being hit by scaffolding that fell from the seventh floor of a building, police said. The man later succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a hospital. And in the western German spa town of Brilon, a 53-year-old man was killed after he was crushed by a falling tree. A 20-meter (65-foot) spruce tree fell on the man while he was working in the forest, local police said. Falling trees also caused train delays in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia, while the wind caused significant damage to cars and buildings. The DWD expects the storm to continue battering eastern Germany into the night, with parts of southern Germany expecting hurricane-force winds as well. Several regions have warned residents to stay at home while emergency services attempt to clear the roads of fallen branches and repair power outages.

World Kite Surfing Championships kick off in Germany
This weekend saw the start of the World Kite Surfing Championship in Germany. The weather cooperated, major winds fueled the action. The German weather played ball on Saturday (July 25) for the start of the World Kite Surfing Championships in the North Sea resort of St. Peter-Ording. [Kristen Boese, World Champion Kite Surfer]: "The conditions today in St. Peter-Ordning are super for the freestyle discipline. The wind is really strong and the great North Sea waves are creating lots of action." Altogether 90 people from 19 different countries were participating in the competition which also attracted a host of spectators, even if the forecast was for rain and sun over the coming days. The athletes themselves appeared delighted with a wind speed of six allowing them to surf at great speed. With 37 athletes, Germany is the strongest represented country at the championships, followed by Poland and the Netherlands, both with seven participants.

Visiting Rügen Island, Germany
With one full day to explore Ruegen Island, the largest in all of Germany, we had an itinerary full of activities. One of the highlights included renting an e-trabi (Trabant) car of the former GDR (East Germany) era taking it for a spin. The typical engine had been replaced by an electric motor making it a more environmentally friendly ride. Nearby we cooled off at North Beach where hundreds flock to tan and swim. To visit more of Rügen we traded in our car for train ticket passes. Boarding the Roland Racer, a former steam engine commuter train, we passed scenic towns, forests and farmland. Hearing about the famed chalky cliffs we headed over to Jasmund National Park to marvel at them in person. Although we packed a lot into one day of travel we left feeling we barely covered the island. Hopefully we'll have a chance to return again soon to visit more areas. Visiting Rügen Island, Germany Travel Video Transcript: So good morning from Germany. It is day four of our big road trip around the country and today we are exploring around Rügen Island. So we have a very busy itinerary today. We are planning to visit the white chalky cliffs of Jasmund National Park. We're also going to be riding around in an e-Trabi and we're going to be traveling by steam engine train. So that should be a real adventure and I think we're also going to finish things off with a few visits to museums. So a fun day ahead. Let's go start exploring. So we're about to ride on the Roland Racer which is an old fashioned steam engine train. Though the train was once used as a commuter train for locals these days you're more likely to find visitors enjoying the scenic route. The tracks run past farms, villages and stretches of forest. It is an absolutely spectacular ride. So we have now arrived at a place called Königsstuhl at Jasmund National Park. And this is a world heritage UNESCO site and it is really well known for its white chalky cliffs. I'm sure most of you have seen the white cliffs of Dover. Well, Germany has something just like it. So this is our sweet ride for the day. We're going to be driving an e Trabi around the island. So this is an old fashioned trabant. It would have been the car that they drove in East Germany the former GDR. And they've put in an electric motor in it so now it is good for the environment and we're going to be cruising. It is nice and colorful so I think we're going to make quite the impression on the roads. So we are still visiting the town of Göhren but right now we are down at the beach here at the promenade. So this area is called North Beach and it is beautiful for strolling, maybe doing a bit of sunbathing and we have some great weather today so a lot of people are out just enjoying the sun. We've got a slice of the local bread here. It has just been freshly made and if you look down you can see that it has got a generous portion of butter and also herbs. So let's try this out. It is amazing. So fresh. Such a generous amount of butter. That's probably about three times as much butter as I would normally put on my bread but it tastes really good. We then visited a few local museums in Göhren which showcased life as it was a few centuries back. Their collection included a mixture of farming equipment, horse drawn carriages and furniture that would have found in local households. That was a really busy day. We've just arrived back home. We're going to rest up because tomorrow we're off to a new destination. This is part of our Travel in Germany series. We're making a series of videos showcasing German culture, German arts, German foods, German religion, German cuisine and German people. All photos and video taken by Samuel Jeffery (Nomadic Samuel) and Audrey Bergner (That Backpacker). Music in this video courtesy of Audio Network

Ten centimeters of fresh snow on the Zugspitze | Zehn Zentimeter Neuschnee auf der Zugspitze
he sun makes itself at the beginning of the last week of August in Germany scarce. Deep "Ute" brings according to German Weather Service (DWD) in many places dense clouds and some rain. In the southeast, the sun will shine even longer on Monday, otherwise it would often be cloudy and there will be some rainfall, the meteorologists predicted. It blows partly a fresh wind - at the North Sea stormy gusts are expected. The maximum values ??are between 20 and 29 degrees. Tuesday brings a mix of sun and clouds, but it usually stays dry at a maximum of 20 to 29 degrees. Umbrellas are in demand on Wednesday in the west and southwest of Germany, even strong thunderstorms are possible there. In the eastern half it is sunny and dry. The temperatures reach a maximum of 30 degrees. On the weekend there were even snowfall: On the Zugspitze fell almost ten inches of fresh snow, it was frosty cold with minus seven degrees. In the night to Sunday, the snowfall limit had fallen to 1700 meters, from 2000 meters altitude had formed a closed snow cover on Germany's highest mountain (2962 meters). "Nothing special for this time of year," commented the DWD meteorologist. In many parts of Bavaria there was a cold air infiltration. Snow also fell in Austrian mountains. At the measuring stations at the Sonnblick and at the Rudolfshte in the Hohe Tauern, there were about 40 centimeters of fresh snow, as the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) reported. Some higher mountain roads from Tyrol to Styria were not passable after snowfalls - at least temporarily. Amsterdam's Weather In Summer
http://www.bubblews.com/news/1117439-the-strange-climate-of-holland Holland, a small country in North-West Europe is bordered by countries such as Germany, Belgium and England. Holland is a nickname for 'the Netherlands' and the Netherlands Basically is an acronym for 'the Lowlands'. That's right, Europe has many mountains, but Holland is as flat as it can be. Another thing you should be aware of is that Holland is surrounded by the North-Sea, making it therefore a windy country. For this reason you will find many wind mills scattered around Holland The Climate of Holland is defined as mild to cold winters and mild summers. In fact, summers are not hot at all with temperatures averaging around 23 °C (74°C). Winters has fair amounts of snow, but depending on the winds this can change. If in the summer there is a northern Wind in Holland, comming from the North Sea than we have cool temperatures. The exact opposite is true during the winter, since water does not cool off as quickly as air.

How do supplies reach off-shore drilling rigs when the seas are too rough to set sail? Until now drilling equipment and other goods simply weren't delivered, often leading to production stoppages and millions of dollars in lost revenue. But now the Voith Turbo company has developed an intelligent propulsion system equipped with propellers to keep ships on course during high seas. Our reporter Hagen Tober took a ride on a high-tech supply ship setting sail from Aberdeen, Scotland.

Germany: Danger beneath the sea | Focus on Europe
Unexploded munitions from World War II can still be found at the bottom of the North and Baltic seas. As well as an environmental hazard, they also affect the building of offshore wind parks. Now plans are underway to clear the munitions.

Snow desaster in March 2018
In the winter 1978/79 a snow desaster is told. It was a special weather situation in North of Germany, A high in south of Scandinavia an a low southerly of colon. It was a motor to pump the cold air from central Russia to the North of Germany and the South of Denmark. In 24h we got 50cm snow and the very strong wind caused snowdrift in horrible hight. for more information look https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schneekatastrophe_in_Norddeutschland_1978 A similair situation was caused in December 2010 lots of snow but a bit less wind. Nowaday in March 2018 we got the same situation. The Baltic Sea had +2°C and very cold wind with -15°C came over the Baltic Sea. it took the warm water vapour and resulted in nearly 24h contionus snowing in a small stripe from Flensburg to Sylt. The amount of snow is nearly the same and the wind comes between 7 and 9 bft from east. Temperatures of -10°C create a very pulvery snow which results in high snowdrift.

This spring's 1975 Live in Berlin set caught the band beginning to sense its power over a rock audience. Live in Offenbach, from September 1978, features the band that included bass-guitar star Jaco Pastorius. It also included Peter Erskine, a shrewd drummer who helped reintroduce a cooler jazz feel after the critical hammering that had greeted the overcooked, studio-made Mr Gone earlier that year. Stripped down to a quartet, the band sound engaged (particularly the sometimes enigmatic saxist Wayne Shorter), and after the standard early workouts on their hits, they get surprisingly loose and open. Shorter exhibits Sonny Rollins's muscular solo-sax whimsicality on the standard Thanks for the Memory, and Zawinul's wealth of acoustic-piano improv ideas burst out of I Got It Bad and That Ain't Good, while Birdland has a bright, rough-and-ready energy. Pastorius's driving basslines thunder through the music, even if his solo spots tend to emit more heat than light. It's a vivid show from a WR period sometimes considered short of inspiration.

Weather RTTY - DWD Hamburg heard in Portugal
Audio and decoding of a weather radioteletype broadcast by the german weather service (Deutscher Wetterdienst or DWD) from Hamburg. They mostly concern with weather at sea, particularly north, baltic and mediterranean. This particular frequency works around the clock and it's in german. There are other frequencies and also english transmissions. Here is a great resource about this topic: http://weather.mailasail.com/Franks-Weather/Radio-Teletype-Weather-Broadcasts The video is rather long and uneventful, there's no need to watch it all. Btw, it was only thanks to RTTY that I finally found out what TTY means in other contexts such as unix shells: TeleTYpe :) Hardware: - RTL-SDR R820T (any cheap ebay seller will do) - Precision HF Up Converter from janielectronics (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Precision-HF-Up-Converter-for-RTL2832U-E4000-R820T-RTL-SDR-tuner-Funcube-DVB-T-/171271971726) - Wire antenna 11 meters long (check out my ultra cheap setup: https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/+TiagoSousa/albums/5991444044619028673) Software: - SDR# - MultiPSK

Britain's Biggest Storm
Twenty years ago (1987) Britain was hit by its biggest storm in three centuries - it caused £1 billion in damage and killed 19 people. Personal memories of narrow escapes that night are as riveting now as they were just after the "hurricane" hit, so the re-enactments here are gripping. Among others, we hear from a woman in Kent who almost gave birth in the road trying to get to hospital (she later named her baby Andrea Gail), the man who made monumental decisions to prevent the national grid crashing, and the weather forecasters who didn't predict the storm. A fantastic reminder of an extraordinary occurrence Another doco on the same storm - http://youtu.be/1kCxwkoVnLo (If you would like this educational video to be removed, please contact me directly.)

US Coast Guard Siezes German Weather Station on Little Koldewey Island Greenland 1944
USCG operation to destroy a German weather reporting station on Little Koldewey Island on the Northeast coast of Greenland. Also included in this footage from the Summer of 1944 is the capture of crewman from a German trawler. The crew scuttled their trawler after being fired upon by Coast Guard Cutters following a 70 mile chase. An interesting article covering this action can be found on the United States Coast Guard website here: http://www.uscg.mil/history/articles/externsteine.asp Public domain footage from CB 38 produced by the US Army Signal Corps' Army Pictorial Service. Destination Germany: Sailing in Brandenburg
When you think about summer vacation and water sports in Germany, you probably think about the North Sea, or the Baltic Sea. But there’s a wealth of water sports right at the outskirts of Berlin: there are 3,000 lakes to swim in and lots of ways to explore Brandenburg’s waterways by boat – even with an old sailing yacht. https://www.deutschland.de/en/topic/life/mobility-travel

microdrones Parcelcopter crosses North Sea beyond line of sight
Start a conversation with Microdrones: http://lp.microdrones.com/youtube Deutsche Post DHL’s parcelcopter project has entered its next phase, with microdrones’ special copter going into regular service from the town of Norden in North Germany to the North Sea island of Juist. More than twelve kilometres will be covered autonomously by the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) without any intervention of a pilot. Remarkably, for the first time the system is operating out of sight of a human operator (BVLOS – Beyond Visual Line Of Sight) and is likely to be the first of its category ever to complete such a mission with official approval. The goal is to carry medicine and other urgently needed items quickly and flexibly. In December of last year a Parcelcopter already flew across the river Rhine in Bonn for testing purposes. The current field test is taking place with additional support from the Institute of Flight System Dynamics of the RWTH Aachen University. The Federal Ministry of Transport and digital infrastructure, in coordination with German Air Traffic Control (DFS), has set up a restricted flight area specifically for the parcelcopter. The Wadden Sea National Park Administration, with the participation of several municipalities, has also approved these trials. The field trial is planned over several months, with each individual flight having to be registered. The quadrocopter was continuously developed for this intended purpose since the first test flights took place in 2013. »Our DHL parcelcopter 2.0 is already one of the safest and most reliable flight systems in its class that can meet the requirements needed to fulfil such a mission,« said Jürgen Gerdes, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL’s Post - eCommerce - Parcel Division.

Cold Comfort for Migrant Birds in Germany
Exceptionally cold weather continues to force thousands of migrant birds in search of food to make extra stops on their way north. Full Story: Migrant birds in Germany have been delaying trips north with frigid weather blanketing much of Germany. Ornithologist Bernd Petri filmed thousands of birds in southern Germany who would typically be heading north to breeding grounds. [Bernd Petri, Ornithologist]: "The birds reacted to the cold by turning around. Overall, it's not very dangerous for them. The only danger is when they are being disrupted in their rest areas, by dogs, walkers or riders. In that case, they lose a lot of energy and since they can only find small amounts of food -- that can be dangerous for them." Some birds are finding ways to keep warm. Others do what they can to eat. In a small town north of Berlin, cranes gather on snow covered fields -- cold comfort in what is supposed to be spring time. European weather September 2014
A movie of weather over Europe during September 2014. September in Europe started with the remnants of Hurricane Cristobal, and there were several heavy rain episodes during the month - in Nuremburg, Germany on 7 September, in Austria on 12 September and in Sweden on 21 and 22 September. Southern France suffered flooding on 17 September and at the end of the month. Vienna had twice the September average rainfall, while the United Kingdom had its driest start to September for 50 years. Fog caused delays at airports such as Amsterdam, Zurich, and Lisbon on 16 September, and again on 18 September in Stockholm Arlanda, Leeds, London City, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Istanbul Ataturk, and Zakynthos. The autumnal equinox took place early in the hours of 23 September and some areas experienced their first frosts and snow of the autumn. The Balearic Islands had thunderstorms for two days after the equinox, while on 26 September, Norway had its first big autumn storm of the year. The 'Natural Colour RGB' images used in this movie are taken from EUMETSAT's Meteosat-10 satellite in geostationary orbit 36,000 km above the Earth. The Natural Colour RGB product makes use of three solar channels: VIS0.6, VIS0.8 and NIR1.6. In this colour scheme vegetation appears greenish because of its large reflectance in the VIS0.8 channel (the green beam) compared to the NIR1.6 (red beam) and VIS0.6 (blue beam) channels. Water clouds with small droplets have large reflectance at all three channels and hence appear whitish, while snow and ice clouds appears cyan because ice strongly absorbs in NIR1.6 (no red). Bare ground appears brown because of the larger reflectance in the NIR1.6 than at VIS0.6, and the ocean appears black because of the low reflectance in all three channels. Climate Changes Destroyed Our Holiday/ yourway2norway
Climate change in real life. The summer of 2018 is like nothing you have ever expected when it comes to extreme summer weather in Europe. The Y2N team, Ronald and Mads, went to Portugal and the Algarve region for summer. Off course, we wanted the hot sun, swimming in the warm waters and living la vida loca. It did not happen. The climate destroyed our dreams and gave us all the flu in stead of fun. Cold north west winds, freezing sea temperatures and cold beaches became our reality. When in Norway and the Nordics, temperatures went up, up, up, the sun burnt the trees brown in June and the ice cold water in the Fjords was suddenly like a beach in Ibiza on a hot day. In this (quirky, as always) video Ronald has one big challenge; swim in the cold water in "Syden" or die like a coward! What will be his destiny? This is a fun and humoristic take on a very serious matter. Climate changes are real. We will show the evidence to you on a beach in Portugal, named Cabanas. This is not normal weather. Germans Submarine landed in North America. Secret Weather Station U-537 Labrador Canada
WWII Secret Weather Station "Kurt" deployed by U-537 Submarine at Martin's Bay Labrador Canada. Kurt Wetterstation location 2.5Km west on the mainland west of the south tip of Oo-olilik Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. geo:lat=60.077087908682955 geo:lon=-64.37833786010742 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squid_%28weapon%29 Canadian War Museum, Ottawa http://www.warmuseum.ca/splash http://www.uboat.net/ops/weather_stations.htm The U-537 made the only armed German landing on North American soil in WWII. U-537 left Kiel, Germany on September 18, 1943. She made a brief stop in Bergen, Norway and headed out to sea again on 30 Sept. The boat went on patrol in the western North Atlantic under Kptlt. Peter Schrewe. Its task was to set up an automatic weather station on the coast of Labrador. U-537 carried a scientist, Dr. Kurt Sommermeyer, and Wetter-Funkgerät (WFL) number 26 (the sixth in a series of 21 such stations) manufactured by Siemens. It consisted of various measuring instruments, a 150-watt Lorenz 150 FK-.type transmitter and ten canisters with nickel-cadmium and dry-cell high-voltage batteries. On October 22 U-537 arrived at Martin Bay at the northern tip of Labrador. For the next 48 hours U-537 lay at anchor while the crew manhandled the 220-pound canisters, along with a tripod and mast, into rubber boats and then onshore. The weather station was set up 400 yards inland on a 170 feet high hill. At 5:40 P.M. on October 23, having ensured that the station was functioning properly, Schrewe weighed anchor and set off for an anti-shipping patrol off Newfoundland. His patrol was uneventful and on December 8 U-537 returned to Lorient, France. Reports indicate that the weather station sent out normal transmissions for a few days, but then there was apparent jamming on that frequency (about which nothing is known; no evidence has yet turned up that the Allies learned about the equipment). Map of Martin Bay Labrador Kurt site Location: http://nlarchaeology.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/kurt.jpg http://nlarchaeology.wordpress.com/ It consisted of several measuring instruments, a telemetry system and a 150 watt Lorenz 150 FK-type transmitter http://www.laud.no/ww2/lo40k/index.htm. It also had 10 cylindrical canisters which were about 3 feet tall and weighed around 220 lb each. One canister contained the instruments and was attached to a 10-metre (33 ft) antenna mast. A second, shorter mast carried an anemometer and wind vane. The other canisters contained nickel-cadmium batteries that powered the station. The WFL would broadcast weather readings every three hours during a two minute transmission on 3940 kHz. The system could work for up to six months, depending on the number of battery canisters. All of this material had to be carried from the U-Boat, put into rubber dinghies, rowed ashore and carried ¼ of a mile inshore to be installed at the station. This was all done in a little over 24 hours by hand and in October in northern Labrador, meaning most of it was done in near darkness. http://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/articles/feature2.html Special U-Boot Missions In North America, Iceland and Canada 1942-44 Playlist of Weapon WWII War Museum Canada : http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLC302AF405EC8D0E4 TilTul http://tiltul.com LinksYouWantToRemember CIMG9560

Cessna 172N VFR Flight Bad Weather at Destination
VFR Flight in a Cessna 172 N from Leer to Wangerooge (North sea islands) and back. Beautiful weather outbound. NSW, wind calm, visibility 30km++ Inbound a weather front was coming in from the SW but was moving slowly and conditions were still GRN+. However we did get caught out and had to divert south. A good example of how weather conditions can change.

What is the weather like in Bonn?
The weather in Bonn is fairly pleasant throughout the year, being at its warmest during the months of July and August, and coldest between December and January. Much of the region's weather is affected by the strong maritime breezes blowing in from the nearby North Sea and Atlantic Ocean, and from its location in the north-western German lowlands.

W/S Drone landing C/U Drone cargo part reading (German): "DHL Packet" M/S Drone with sea on background M/S Road sign for Juist SCRIPT Seehund pharmacy on the North Sea island of Juist received a medicine delivery by drone on Tuesday. Deutsche Post-DHL has been sending medicines by drone from the mainland town of Norden since September 18. The drone can carry up to 1.2 kg (2.6 lbs) of medicine, which can be delivered in 15 to 25 minutes, depending on weather conditions. The medicines are sent regularly as part of a research project, but also in cases of urgent need. According to DHL CEO Andrei Busch, there have been incidents where "medication was desperately needed" and could only be dispatched by drone. Busch also claims that DHL's efforts were the first instance of an uncrewed autonomous aircraft being used by a civil organisation.
