How To Improve Your Graphic Design Skills

09:05
Every graphic designer suffers from lack of confidence at some point in their career. So what's the secret to improving? The more work you do, the more mistakes you make, and hopefully, the more lessons you can apply on your next project. The only way you'll improve and gain confidence as a graphic designer is by creating as much work as possible. // MY LINKS Website: http://brentgalloway.me Twitter: http://twitter.com/BrentGalloway Instagram: http://instagram.com/brentgalloway Dribbble: http://dribbble.com/brentgalloway Shop: http://shop.brentgalloway.me // MY GEAR Camera: http://amzn.to/2kzEfWd Wide Lens: http://amzn.to/2krqU6Y Video Mic: http://amzn.to/2ljg4iZ Tripod: http://amzn.to/2l9C6Cy JOBY Pod: http://amzn.to/2kzq5EA #freelance #graphicdesign #confidence

product design rendering and sketching by product tank

06:31
This is a product design sketching and rendering tutorial that I've put together for industrial design students. Sketching is something that I know I should do more of, but we're all busy people, so I've picked up a few drawing and rendering tips along the way to make things faster and look better especially for those of us who know we are not as good as we should be. I would like to thank Ben Davies from Rodd Industrial Design for teaching me most of this stuff, it was a long time ago, but - credit where its due. In this video I set out how product design presentation sheets used to be created using pen and marker techniques, which is making a come back at the moment. I then look at the common mistakes we all make from time to time and how to a few simple things will vastly improve the look of your presentation sheets. Finally I focus on how to make a very professional looking product design presentation sheet in a short space of time using Photoshop and then show that even if you prefer to use drawing programs or apps on your tablet or computer, the process is very much the same. I hope you enjoy the video and if interested in seeing more, hit subscribe, because more good stuff is on its way.

Skills you should aspire to when studying product design

32:53
This is a lecture on the general topic of skills product designers are expected to have. It is intended for students of product design, and those who might like to be students of product design some day. In it, I am trying to give you an overview of everything you should expect to learn during your studies. I hope you will find it interesting and useful.

How To Be an industrial Designer

04:46
Ever wonder what goes on inside of those industrial design studios? Well you've come to the right place. This is a video that myself and 5 other classmates made during our final year as ID students at Arizona State University. The purpose of this video is 1. to show how much fun us industrial designers have and 2. to explain to others what it is we do. Please note that we absolutely endorse the views and opinions expressed in this video (as comical as they may be, they are all very true). Also note that no iPhones were harmed in the making of this video. 5 Ways to Improve Your UX Skills

10:00
Want to learn how to improve your UX skills? In this video I discuss five ways you can improve your UX skills, including - UX Courses, UX Ebooks, UX Online Resources, Networking & UX Side projects. ____ IF YOU LIKE MY VIDEOS, HERE ARE SOME NEXT STEPS... 1) HIRE ME: Want me to work with your startup or business? https://bit.ly/2AybHq8 2) FREE EBOOK: "How to start a career in UX" https://bit.ly/2xuYDDE 3) FREE PORTFOLIO REVIEW: Get my thoughts on your portfolio... https://bit.ly/2KuhpxM ____ 1 - Courses So one of the first and most obvious ways to learn UX online would be through online courses. You have two options when it comes to UX courses, you can either learn in-person or online. General assembly offer full time and part time courses Part time start at £2,000 Full time/immersive start at around - £9,000 Beyond general assembly, there’s a number of useful online courses you can find. Udemy - https://www.udemy.com/ Treehouse - https://teamtreehouse.com Career Foundry - https://careerfoundry.com/ UX Mastery - https://uxmastery.com/resources/ux-courses/ Teachable - https://teachable.com/ 2 - Online resources (Ebooks, YouTube etc) So there is a number of useful, free online resources you can use to teach yourself UX design. Ebooks - There’s a huge library of fantastic E-books available from UX Pin - https://www.uxpin.com/studio/ebooks/ They cover everything from how to create a UX strategy for your organisation to building effective prototypes YouTube - There’s a wealth of UX tutorials on Youtube from some fantastic people and brands. Mike Loke, Sarah Doody, Laith Wallace and AJ & Smart Medium and Blogs - Some great blogs to follow are - The UX Blog - https://theuxblog.com/ A List Apart - http://alistapart.com/ UX booth - http://www.uxbooth.com/ UX Design CC - https://uxdesign.cc 3 - Networking Networking is another great way to learn new skills by meeting and connecting with new people. Sites like Meetup can help you connect with groups of like minded people - people already working in the UX industry or people like yourself who are just starting out. Also, sites like Eventbrite are a great way to find industry and design events that are going on in your town or city 4 - Take on a client project If you feel up to the challenge, then offering your services to a first time client is a great way to jump in at the deep end and get practicing your skills. There’s no better teacher than real world, on the job experience. If you jump in at the deep end you are likely gunna make some mistakes and fuck ups, but ultimately you will learn from these! 5 - Build your own product Another awesome way to practice your skills is to build your own product or work on your own side project while you build your career. Again, like the previous point - this is going to let you apply everything you are learning in a real world environment and see how it all works in practice. A benefit of working on your own product or side project is that you are going to also have to learn business skills such as pitching and presenting your idea to people, and also working with others if you turn it into a business ___ Watch, share and subscribe to my channel: http://bit.ly/2zOjnU1 ____ Check out my social for more UX tips: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/robertsmith.co/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/robertsmith_co

DIT's Product Design programme is the first of its kind in Ireland. Graduates of the programme have gone on to a variety of successful careers in Ireland and abroad. In the course of this four year honours degree, students are immersed in the various disciplines of product design through a unique interdisciplinary approach -- students develop their knowledge and skill sets through modules in the areas of design, engineering and business. This integrated method produces product designers who have the ability and confidence to be both creative and innovative in whatever role they choose to pursue. It gives them the necessary ability to face the challenges of designing new products and bringing them to market. Graduates of the program have proven themselves. equally comfortable in the design studio, the engineering office and the boardroom. Students learn how to produce accurate physical models of their designs using the extensive studio and prototyping facilities. They also use industry standard design software to bring their projects to fruition. In the capstone module of the programme, students conceptualise, design and develop a novel product. A number of students have developed successful products in this project which they have gone on to pursue and develop further upon graduation. While the final project is important for the students' individual development, a series of team projects over the course of the program help the students to develop interpersonal skills along with an appreciation of team dynamics. Students of the programme have won and been shortlisted for prestigious national and international awards including the Enterprise Ireland All Ireland Student Enterprise Awards, the James Dyson award, the International Forum for Design Concept awards in Hannover, Germany and the Staples Global Eco-easy Challenge in Washington DC, USA. Students of the programme have won and are regular finalists in the DIT Bolton Trust Student Enterprise awards in which they must demonstrate the ability to form their own company, design and develop a new product and produce a viable business plan in tandem. Purdue University Industrial Design

01:47
https://cla.purdue.edu/academic/vpa/ad/industrial/ The Industrial Design (ID) area at Purdue offers both an undergraduate and a graduate program. The undergraduate degree is a professional program with intensive course work to prepare students for professional design positions. Purdue is unique in that it combines the professional degree with strong liberal arts education. This combination of liberal arts and professional design studies prepares students for strong leadership roles as industrial designers. Upon graduation students have worked for major corporations including: Nike, Hasbro, International Trucks, Whirlpool, Delta Faucet, General Electric, Sears, and Microsoft, to name a few. Graduates have also worked for Industrial Design consultancies including: Teams, IDEO, Insight, Worrell Design, Ziba Design, and BMW Designworks, to name a few. The undergraduate program is a four-year degree with an emphasis in form giving for manufactured goods. Students' graduate with the ability to be innovative problem solvers and create aesthetically appropriate forms that can be manufacture by industry. The first year is focused on learning basic design skills through a series of design problems that the student must solve. These abstract problems focus the students' attention on traditional visual form and shape development; additionally they learn both by hand and computer skills. The second year includes courses and projects that emphasis learning to give form to products within a variety of manufacturing techniques. Students experience hands on in the shop, as well as, virtually with the computer and rapid prototyping. In the third year, students are introduced to a variety of corporate sponsored projects as well as design competitions. In these projects, students must solve functional and technical requirements of the company along with aesthetic and psychological need/wants of the intended users. The senior year is a combination of corporate sponsored projects, learning design leadership skills, and a personally selected thesis project. Students also apply research methodologies, introduced the year before, into their design projects. http://www.cla.purdue.edu/ad/industrial/
