The Red Dot Award: Design Concept is the third installation of the internationally recognised Red Dot Design Awards. Focusing on design concepts, prototypes and about to launched products, the award has grown to be the largest, most prestigious design concept award for professional works by designers, companies, studios and universities.
Each and every entry submitted is compared to the best in each subject category, whether the project is submitted by a design student, product company or design studio has no bearing. Only the quality of the idea and design solution counts. Therefore, each winning work is accorded full recognition, without prejudice, regardless of the designer’s degree of experience in the design world.
The award received 4,791 entries from 63 countries. These entries were submitted by 130 design institutions, 300 companies, 883 designers, and 1,071 teams of 3,344 designers. At the end of the adjudication, the jury awarded just 62 ‘Honourable Mentions’, 202 ‘Red Dots’, and 40 ‘Red Dot: Best of the Bests’. Altogether, only 5% of entries submitted received a Red Dot, making it one of the toughest design awards to win in the world.
